Nitrogen oxides are pollutants that can lead to illnesses such as asthma and other respiratory conditions. Nitrogen oxides contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone as well as particle pollution. EPA Regional Administrator, Judith A. Enck says, “Air pollution of the type from this cement plant can lead to a number of serious health and environmental problems, including respiratory problems, heart disease, and smog.”
Cement production companies often times must acquire proper permits as required by the Clean Air Act.
